The African Action Congress candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Kosofe Constituency I, Ishola Shina, has promised to pursue people-centred governance, improved infrastructure and better access to education and healthcare if elected.
Shina made the pledge in a statement welcoming the confirmation and publication of candidate details on the Independent National Electoral Commission portal.
He described the development as “an important milestone in the journey towards democratic participation, accountable leadership and a better future for the people of Kosofe.”
According to him, his campaign would focus on addressing challenges including inadequate housing, declining public infrastructure, limited economic opportunities and gaps in access to quality education and healthcare.
“The African Action Congress stands for a society in which public resources serve the people and governance responds to the genuine needs of citizens,” the statement said.
Outlining his policy priorities, Shina said he would advocate affordable housing, protection of legitimate land rights, transparent urban renewal and community-centred development.
He also pledged to support improved public schools, better learning environments, digital learning, vocational training and youth empowerment, while promoting technology-driven skills acquisition and greater transparency in public administration.
On healthcare, the candidate said he would advocate the rehabilitation and improved equipping of primary healthcare centres across Kosofe, alongside better staffing, essential medicines, maternal and child healthcare, preventive health services and affordable access to treatment.
He added that his proposed economic policies would support small businesses, artisans, traders, young entrepreneurs and local producers through vocational and entrepreneurship programmes.
The statement also identified improved roads, drainage systems, sanitation, waste management and street lighting as priorities, alongside measures to address flooding and environmental degradation.
On representation, Shina said, “We believe governance must be conducted with the people, not imposed upon them.”
He added that his administration would promote regular constituency consultations, engagement with community associations and other stakeholders, transparent budgeting and responsible use of public resources.
The AAC candidate also urged eligible residents of Kosofe Constituency I and Lagos State to collect their Permanent Voter’s Cards ahead of the forthcoming elections.
“The PVC represents an important means of exercising our democratic right. It gives citizens the opportunity to participate in deciding who represents them and how public affairs are managed,” he said.
He further urged residents to reject voter intimidation, electoral violence and vote buying, while calling for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
Describing his campaign as the “Mission to Liberation,” Shina said his objective was to pursue practical solutions that would improve residents’ quality of life.
“Our commitment is to work diligently, represent the people responsibly, demand accountability and pursue practical solutions that improve the quality of life of our constituents,” he said.
He called on community leaders, civil society organisations, young people, professionals, traders and other residents to participate in shaping policies that reflect the needs of their communities.
