The Lagos State Government through Health District III on Wednesday called on residents of Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures against Ebola Virus Disease EVD.

This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, noting that the EVD is caused by orthoebolaviruses and can lead to severe illness and death if not managed promptly.

The statement said the District is proactively sensitizing communities to reduce risk and protect public health, stressing that the EVD spreads primarily through direct contact with the blood, saliva, vomit, or other bodily fluids of an infected person or animal.

She said to prevent transmission, residents are advised to avoid contact with sick individuals, dead bodies, and wild animals such as bats, monkeys among others and residents should maintain personal hygiene.

The district also advised the use of hand sanitizers always and avoid the consumption of undercooked meat.

According to her, the Federal Government has confirmed an imported case of Ebola virus disease in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“As such, vigilance, prompt reporting, adherence to infection prevention measures and community awareness remain essential to protecting lives and preventing the disease spread.

“The Health District III is working with relevant agencies to strengthen surveillance, public awareness and emergency preparedness across Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki and Epe,” she said.
