Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced that he will no longer support any presidential candidate, signaling a possible shift in his political stance.
The singer made the declaration in a post on X on Friday, August 15, 2026, where he wrote: “No more supporting any presidential candidate @AAdeleke_01 make we Dey our Dey!!!”
In the post, Davido tagged Ademola Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State and his uncle, while urging people to “make we dey our dey,” suggesting that he intends to stay away from partisan presidential politics.
The declaration has already attracted significant attention on the social media platform, with the post recording thousands of likes, reposts and comments shortly after it was shared.
Davido has previously been vocal about his political interests and has publicly supported political candidates, making his latest statement notable among his fans and followers.
Recall that Davido in 2025 met Tinubu alongside his father, Adedeji Adeleke, and his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, at the President’s private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos. The visit generated political speculation at the time, particularly over Adeleke’s political future.
Governor Adeleke would later openly endorse Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027. In July 2025, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party endorsed Tinubu for re-election, while Adeleke reaffirmed the position in March 2026, saying, “We have no problem with President Tinubu. He is our leader.”
However, the political atmosphere in Osun has since become increasingly tense, with reports of political violence and clashes ahead of the state’s 2026 governorship election. In July, Adeleke himself raised concerns over political violence in the state and called for sanctions against individuals he accused of aiding and abetting violence.
Against this backdrop, Davido’s latest declaration that he will no longer support any presidential candidate is likely to generate questions about whether his position is connected to the unfolding political developments in Osun or represents a broader decision to withdraw from presidential politics.
However, Davido did not give a reason for the decision or indicate whether his statement was a permanent position ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
