Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central at the National Assembly, has pledged to install free Wi-Fi in strategic locations across the district to boost internet access and create opportunities for young people.
The lawmaker made the announcement via her Facebook handle on Monday after attending a political meeting in Idah Local Government Area, where leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party welcomed several defectors into the party.
According to her, the idea was inspired by a proposal raised during the meeting by one Idris HK, who spoke about providing free Wi-Fi in key parts of Kogi East to support content creators and improve internet access.
“I stood there loving the idea as a necessity for facilitating job creation for our youths,” she said.
Natasha described the initiative as necessary for job creation and youth empowerment, adding that internet service providers would soon be contacted to begin planning, identify suitable locations, and commence installation in Kogi Central.
“Here’s me pledging to do the same for our beloved Kogi Central. Internet providers shall be contacted, proper locations identified, and installations done,” she said.
She also called for healthy collaboration among the three senatorial districts of Kogi State—Central, East, and West—rather than rivalry, saying development should be driven by smart partnerships.
