A nursing advocacy group, the Elegant Nurses Forum, has condemned the alleged assault on a senior nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Odusola Oluwakemi.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the forum said the Chief Nursing Officer, Odusola, was allegedly assaulted on January 15, 2026, by the hospital’s Head of Nursing Services.

The group stated that the incident resulted in severe injuries that required hospitalisation.

According to the statement signed by its National Coordinator, Nurse Thomas Olamide, efforts to address the matter initially faced setbacks, as the accused reportedly ignored repeated police invitations.

The forum further alleged that the suspect had boasted of connections to influential political figures, raising concerns about potential interference in the case.

The group disclosed that it subsequently petitioned the Ogun State Police Command, which has since taken steps by inviting the accused for questioning.

The forum commended the police for obtaining her statement and urged that the case be promptly charged to court.

The statement also highlighted fresh concerns over the victim’s safety, citing a recent incident in which an unidentified individual allegedly gained access to her residence by jumping over the fence.

It added that although neighbours intervened after noticing suspicious movement, the victim’s family feared the intrusion might be linked to the earlier assault and ongoing tensions.

While some residents initially suspected an attempted burglary, the forum said the circumstances surrounding the case warrant a thorough investigation, stressing that the possibility of intimidation or an attempt to obstruct justice should not be overlooked.

Describing the victim as a widow, the group emphasised that her status must not make her vulnerable, insisting that her life and safety are paramount.

The forum further alleged a pattern of workplace intimidation and victimisation within the nursing department, claiming that other nurses had experienced similar treatment under the same leadership.

It called on the police to provide immediate protection for Odusola, conduct a transparent investigation into both the alleged assault and intrusion, and ensure that all individuals connected to the case are held accountable, regardless of their status.

The group also urged the management of the FMC Abeokuta to address issues of workplace violence and create a safer environment for healthcare workers.

“The matter must not be swept under the carpet. No one is above the law,” the statement read.

The police have yet to issue an official public response on the development as of the time of filing this report.
